Midnight Runs at San Pedro High School

Trek

 

I hoped over the cold metal fence

Of the high school

The home of the Pirates

 

At 11:30 is the worst

The sprinkler system coats the steel

With a slick liquid death

 

I scale the murder trap

With the knowledge

An injury is emanate

 

I land harshly

On the other side

Safe

 

But my trek has just started

My legs are waterlogged

Each step is a chore

 

The Harbor breeze cuts through my damp jogging suite

The cold air weight on my lungs

Nine more blocks to go

An act of great endeavor, engaging effort that is strained and not without some risk, must be about more than what it says it is. Perhaps even a simple jog is symptomatic about coming out into the light and sharing too great a transparency than what one is prepared to do. A revealing poem.

I found this quite mysterious and it left me full of questions. Why at school at night. Why sprinklers on. And your authors note: a moment in time...a struggle of some sort. Sorry I can't review this very well. Enjoyed it though. Thanks.
