White Walls, Bright Lights

White Walls, Bright Lights

A Poem by Judas Hammer
"

A place of death and a place for life.

"

White Walls, Bright Lights

I first saw the white walls

And bright lights

As a boy

Visiting my grandfather

The big German

Fighting the bigger C

I remember the bright lights

Hurting my eyes

Blinding

Scorching

In a place that kept death’s door

Wide open

He was gone

I remember the bright lights

And white walls

In the hospital

Alone

Over night

My leg cut open

The pain so harsh

My teeth chattered

Fear

Loneness

Loom over me

I remember bright lights

And white walls

In the hallway

Hearing the maternal scream

And the blissful cries of new angels

Waiting for my daughter

I think she’ll be here

Around 2:00 o’clock

So they say

I enjoyed this read, our relationship to hospitals is rather special and unforgiving, granted.

I like how you took various pieces of life and embroidered them together. It creates, a lasting impression.

Wow, this poem reminds me of Ogden Nash's work. I like how in this write, thoughts of normal (or as you know put it "normal") places or events turn sour and quite scary. But I am, in no way saying that this is a "sour" or "scary" write. Its actually rather fantastic!
Great job, I enjoyed reading your write!

Something a poet/writer should always do...dedicate words to there love ones, not just any words, words we use that they have inspired in us.
Nicely done and Congrats!

It makes more sense after reading the author's note. Hospitals are ironic. They house the sick and dying, they house the healing and alive. I hate hospitals.

And a fabulous day it was?
The song of angels that cry through the mouths of newborn babes, a beautiful sound to a mother and father. The sound the brings relief to the heart and new hope to the world. Good poem...
