White Walls, Bright Lights

White Walls, Bright Lights

A Poem by Judas Hammer
"

A place of death and a place for life.

"

White Walls, Bright Lights

I first saw the white walls

And bright lights

As a boy

Visiting my grandfather

The big German

Fighting the bigger C

I remember the bright lights

Hurting my eyes

Blinding

Scorching

In a place that kept death’s door

Wide open

He was gone

I remember the bright lights

And white walls

In the hospital

Alone

Over night

My leg cut open

The pain so harsh

My teeth chattered

Fear

Loneness

Loom over me

I remember bright lights

And white walls

In the hallway

Hearing the maternal scream

And the blissful cries of new angels

Waiting for my daughter

I think she’ll be here

Around 2:00 o’clock

So they say

This write is so brilliant, the title says it all, the hospital is such a place of varied emotions, within a person, and each in every person a diffrent way of experience. Very well and interesting write. As I never read any before on writerscafe in this genre.

I also have been on the recieving ends of the white light when my husband was being treated for the big C. I remember death's door being open, on broken hinges to come and take him away. Very beautiful, I love the dramatic change in mood and how it goes from being so unweilding to being so powerful and lovely. Very good read.

i love this piece.... even more so because I work at a hospital. I believe that there is no other place that can house such extreme variations of experiences, emotions, and memories....sometimes simultaneously. I love that you captured them all. well done!

This is so cute! Took my emotions on a roller coaster though. I love it.

Simple and to the point, three different experience expressed slightly and melded into perfection. This is a great piece, Judas.

A well thought out, piquant write. Life and death walk hand in hand in these places. You articulate your thoughts and feelings with precision and artistry here.
