A new experience brings strange encounters. Like an orchid you have not seen before, it is possible to say ' I don't like it' on account of non familiarity. But take a second look, growth in life comes with new experiences. A poem about the mind's rambling discoveries!
"As young children sing
The Gregorian chant
In auto tune" this brought an image of a bunch of kids in a car in some long dark hall or chasm chanting in tune one from the other.. Very good write and yes, thought provoking
Love pieces that have no particular direction. I'm taken on a journey of city streets, getting a glimpse inside various scenes, a fly on the wall. Great write
I found this to be uplifting as well. This probably won't be the longest review ever, but I really enjoyed reading this one. Lol, it seems I enjoy a lot of your writing seeing as how every time I read it, I am provoked with thought.
I love the use of oxymoron. It surely describes the craziness of this world. I especially liked the "spirits whisper in my ears/ About past glories/ And future failure/ I put my earphone (should be earphones)/ And ignore/ Them." It was powerful because it's nice to read that someone ignores these things.
Interesting. A little bit Dylanesque (I mean Bob, not Dylan Thomas), with strong and startling imagery. Our minds are great junk yards, stored with all manner of things that we can put together and use.
When I was at Sapper school, I was sitting in a pile of ants while pulling security, and I actually had a very similar thought; "chicks may dig this fancy s**t, but this REALLY sucks." Then, I remember hallucinating as I was doing the death march seeing chicks and trick-or-treaters (it was the night of Halloween a few weeks back) running around because I hadn't slept. That was an all too intimate reminder of the last few months I spent in Afghanistan, when I wasn't sleeping much either. When you doze off in the middle of humping a really heavy rucksack for however many miles, you realize that you're doing some really savage things to your body and wonder why. The same kind of thoughts pass through your mind when some A-hole you never met (and would probably get along with in another set of circumstances) is shooting at you. I really liked this because it was personally thought-provoking, probably because I saw the review from Revolutionary and it immediately triggered a similar response to what they had. Anyway, good read.
I thought of war and remorse for being part of such a filthy thing as you realize that women find soldiers sexy but you don't feel so sexy lying in a trench with the bugs, and how come birds of a different feather can flock together but we have to kill each other and thank god they let you keep your headset when you signed up for this stupid war.It made me think!
Dreams sometimes ramble on like this too. At the time they seem to make perfect sense; then you wake up and wonder, what in the world was all that about. But there's something about this I like, I just can't put my finger on it.
