Salvia

I once tried Salvia. It was so horrible I did a short animated film about the experience.

Salvia

 

Prieto had been telling me

He was smoking something crazy

My interest piqued

He said he purchased it

From a smoke shop

It was legal

I told him

I wanted in

I wanted to feel

Crazy

He said this Saliva stuff

Was wicked

I thought

How bad could it be?

If Uncle Sam gave it

The thumbs up

 

A week later I was

At Prieto’s condo

About to sample

This legal drug

 

Preito mixed the Saliva with weed

Happiness took over me

And planted a smile

On my lips

 

We take long drags

And pass it back and forth

Prieto than plays show tunes

Of sitcoms

From the eighties

 

The drug sneaks in

Slow and venom-like

I panic

My mind and me

Are having a full

Discussion

 

Old childhood cartoons

Play in my skull

Yet they seem demonic

and terrorize me

I am paralyzed

I pick my arm up

It feels attached space

My limb feels like it’s melting

 

I want to tell Prieto

But this voice in

My head

Tells me he might

Kill

Me

So I stay quiet

Praying for this

Nightmare

To

End

I don`t do drugs, I prefer a cup of tea in the garden, but I did try some things as a young hippie, and read with delight literature about drugs, de Quincy, William Burroughs, Leary et al, drugs are OK if you can stop and use what you have learned in a creative way, which you do very well here

That's an apt description of salvia... that stuff is evil. I tried it once and this ominous, thundering voice in my head told me that I never really lived, my body was a lab experiment and this life is only dreams and nightmares.... paralyzing fear.... the way you've written this is captivating, the scene came alive in that vivid way that only drugs and dreams can do. Great write!

This poem was tight. There was a sense of dread after the first few lines, realizing this would not go well. But you balanced that out with that dry humor of yours, sneaking it in nicely. Every line was affecting but that second to the last stanza laid it all out. Chilling, yet you had to smile.
