The King's FeastA Poem by Cobblestone TravelerInspired by the 10 Words I Give Contest for April.Queen Ravana entered first on her palomino Followed by servants abreast groaning wheel carts Bearing glittering jewels and barrels of wine She was greeted by her host, the great King Eldon An extravagant feast was held in the courtyard And the Queen had a final gift for the King An exotic meal of starfish, native to her people As she ruled alongside the vast, open ocean The King was delighted at this bestowal As the market for such was terribly sparse He had always been an adventurous king And never shied from new experiences They chatted lively sitting under the canopy Drank merrily and chortled at the jesters As soon as he felt the tickle in his throat He knew, but it was already too late His royal food taster was wheezing and blue The poison had been slow and creeping The King's utensil dropped, along with pulse And slowly the kingdom was stolen Ravana dabbed her mouth with her napkin She stood and called forth her favorite servant "Send a letter by raven back home to my love And give word that his brother is fallen at last" © 2017 Cobblestone TravelerAuthor's Note
