The Drowned Damsel

The Drowned Damsel

A Poem by Cobblestone Traveler
"

A sea of betrayal

"

No one could deny the roaring flame
Before we were torn from each other
You made an oath we would one day reunite

In waiting, I bled out, burnt and broken
Self-assured all the while I was in the heart of a knight
Fighting dragons and goblins to return to me

Replaced my veins with fibers of fabrication
All reason is reduced to liquidation
I must be worth it, had to be worth it

I was told from my love that I was his life
I've held out this long; my wait will continue
I would be completed, must be completed

But alas, the chilling silence breaks
The winds carry the truth in stinging wisps
Confirming everything I've fought to reject

You grew complacent in company of others
Your needs and desires fulfilled without me
All thoughts now void of your prior quest

You are never going to come back

Do they grasp what jewels they were handed
To receive your healing laugh and smile
Or to touch your skin so effortlessly

Luxuries I have been eternally denied
Retained behind the thickest stone
Leaving me shivering and alone

I sense a hot bubbling
sensation throughout
Scalding rage begins to rise and froth
I've been a fool for so long, too long

In my hell I have become a water creature
Merged with my years of irrelevant tears
And now I will make them serve me

My sea sends for the skies in a funnel of fury
This tempest of time, time forever lost
My screams pierce the air--I will be heard

If you truly loved me, you would have reclaimed me
Nothing would've been able to stop you
The parting would have only been a memory, a whisper

I shall summon the shells and the corals
To form a new heart, weaved with seaweed
A re-imagined life for the drowned damsel
