Oh Mother Dear

Oh Mother Dear

A Poem by Angela Sparks

Oh mother dear,
Won't you come tuck me in?
Tell me a story again?
I want to know what you used to do
So I can grow up to be like you

Oh mother dear,
Can I have that toy?
I really hate boys.
What made you like daddy?
I don't think ill ever get married

Oh mother dear,
Does my makeup look alright
Me and my friend got in a fight
I know how childish it seems
I'm just glad your here for me

Oh mother dear,
Prom is soon I need my dress.
Did I win any scholarships?
Graduation is really soon
I'm really gonna miss you.

Oh mother dear,
I've met the perfect one for me
He proposed this evening
And we're going to have a son
Y'all are going to have lots of fun!

Oh mother dear,
Don't die on me
I need you, so does he.
I don't want you to leave just yet
I love you and without you I'm a mess

Oh mother dear,
I'm at your grave standing near
I miss you and wish you were here
But I know you had to leave me on my own
But I will love you no matter where you go...

This is a heart telling piece you have written Angela. So well arranged with the stanzas and repetition (oh mother dear) which I love so much in poems. This was a very tender and personal piece but you expressed in this piece what your Mother meant to you.

Thank you
The poem is beautiful, it so perfectly expresses the feelings one has towards ones mother or any parental figure for that. I think you expressed such a complex relationship perfectly, if it was any longer it would of felt forced. I love your choice of rhyme and repetition also, it all comes together so fluidly and smoothly which is perfect for the theme of the poem. It is sad yet happy in the sense that, yes, the mother died but the mother is lucky for being so loved and I'm sure she is aware of the narrators feelings and kept them with her as she passed. Definitely a piece that has me wanting more from you.

A sad ending to a beautiful poem. You left the reader with sad ending. A mother love is never forgotten and is needed. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

I love how you've portrayed a mothers role so exceptionally in this poem, we really do take them fro granted! Your words have shown how beautiful and loving the relationship between a mother and daughter is. Super! :)

Thank you so much! We do.. but no matter what we love them c:
I like this one a lot Angela... our mothers serve a bigger role in our lives than we ever know or admit but it's their love we seek the most. More than anyone else we need our mothers. I was once told when soldiers are on the battlefield and dying they ask for their mother because of the love and comfort they provide...good work :)
