Touché

Touché

A Poem by KJ

“Touché,” I said when I left for good.

It’s the only thing that came to mind.

Emotions were always hard for me.

I had to leave, there was no choice.

If he wanted me to stay, I would’ve heard his voice.

After I left that cold winter’s eve,

I turned and walked away,

My heart on my sleeve.

Saying “touché” with a little grin on my face,

Crying inside because he was gone forever.

As I turned to walk away,

I looked him straight in the eye,

He said, “Touché” and started to cry.

I kept on walking, heart on my sleeve,

The last thing I wanted to do was leave

So it's a mutual breakup. Kind of strange and ironic: the word touche usually comes with a sense of humor to it.... Good brief piece. Thanks for sharing.
