Depravity

Depravity

A Poem by Mason Rayburn

You lost and wicked generation
Did you learn nothing from lost empires?
They were lost in fire and death.
Is this what you seek, then?
Come now
We can do better than that.
I know we can do better than that.

You wicked people.
Your sins are piled high
Like the dead at the end of a war.
They cast shadows on you
But not even this will hide you.
When the light comes
Bury yourself beneath the dead
Lest you be revealed in all your iniquity.

See how they're desperate.
They're looking for something
Of which they do not know the name of
Or even how it looks.
They haven't seen what it's like
On the side of the light.
Can they really say the dark is better?
Come now
We can do better than that.
I know we can do better than that.
