Chains

Chains

A Poem by Mason Rayburn

I looked in the mirror and saw a new way.
But as soon as I ventured down that way,
I discovered that it was an old path.
Nothing is ever new in this mirror of mine.
Nothing ever changes.
Is it really possible to break a chain?
Link after link-ever flowing, ever continuity.
I am told that the chain can only take so much stress.
That it will eventually break with enough force.
But I am left to wonder:
Is it really possible to break a chain?
In a flash of hope, I see a link give slightly.
I hope. I pray.
Please, be the first of many to break.
The chain won't give.
I am left to wonder:
Is it really possible to break a chain?
