Burning Love

Burning Love

A Poem by Mason Rayburn

I walk through the flames
Reaching for her
For she is the only thing I see.
I hear her screams.
"Don't do this!"
"Not for me..!" she sobs.
I see her tears;
I see her fears,
As the flames lick at my body.
"But this is for you..."
"It has all been for you..."
I say with a weak smile.
"Go back!"
"I'm not worth it!"
She screams with such sorrow.
Such sorrow
As eyes have never seen.
Such pain
As has never been experienced.
"I don't love you!" she screams
At the top of her lungs,
But we both know it’s a lie.
Now here I stand,
A scorched and burned man,
Smiling warmly all along.
"There is nothing I wouldn't do
To be with you my love so true."
