All's Not Well But Will End Well

All's Not Well But Will End Well

A Poem by Clyde du Coeur
"

Following a stupid family quarrel at my mother's hospital bedside, a sequence of emotional turmoil followed.

"
She said
'I wanted it to stop
so I closed my eyes and said
"I want to sleep now" '

Taking the hint,
the others left in an orderly fashion
While I sat at the foot of the bed
watching your so-called slumber.

She said
'I thought it would be good if I lay there'
~
I wanted to go up but I thought
'She's been through a lot,
I'll let her sleep now.'

She said
'I wanted you to wake me and tell me your feelings,
but then I awoke and you were gone...'

Off to the bathroom to cry my eyes out
Frustrated at myself for being so immature, claiming
'All I ever do is make people feel hatred.'

'What I did was silly'
(She said)
'A girlie approach'

'But I was careless'
(I said)
'But I'm here now'.

'That's what I wanted'
(We said.)

Author's Note

Clyde du Coeur
-My eyes well up just replaying the situation in my head, cue the guilty feelings.
-I initially made this into a song, hence the line breaks in obvious places - maybe you can pick up the rhythm.
-For those who are interested, my mum had a double mastectomy, followed by a dangerous internal haemorrhage afterwards. She is home now, exactly a week afterwards and it's going to be a long road from here on out.

So many emotions and such a hard time for all concerned. My prayers will include you and your family. Practice patience, especially with your mother...she is afraid, more than she will ever tell you.

Remember to make the words you speak light and sweet,
for you never know which ones you might have to eat.

Be kind always, and gentle.

It is hard seeing a parent, or anyone close, but especially a parent in a poorly way. It is difficult for a young adult to see their parents showing frailty of any kind. As a parent I sometimes wonder about what faces my own kids in this way. But, ahem, moving quickly on. You capture the emotionalism of a stressful moment strongly. Few words are said, but a lot goes on. We can feel the stress behind the poem. Real life.
