![]() Recorded DeliveryA Poem by Clyde du Coeur![]() Originally these were lyrics but I think it works better as a free-verse poem :)![]() I sent something to you today, due tomorrow. I sent it via recorded delivery: it should arrive at 6.15pm prompt* (*please be at home to receive). I've travelled various distances solo, But never in this direction; That's why I hope he'll be glad of my arrival.
"Because the item is uncommon and somewhat valuable, We recommend that you come to Exeter train station and collect the item yourself - to avoid damage."
Oh, recorded delivery... At least they are delivering. I hope this is okay.
I daren't waste time looking for his house in the depths of Exeter; besides, how romantic would it be if he met me at the station, On the platform? Like a film.
"Dear sir, Your item will be on the 6 o'clock train from London Waterloo, coach 5 on platform 2. It will be available for collection as soon as the train pulls in. We hope you will find the item in mint condition. Thank you for your co-operation."
The train's pulling into platform 2 now. I feel nervous but the excitement kills it:
The doors slide open. I see him, his eyes widen. His neutral lips break into a smile. I step off the train, grinning happily. I drop my bags and embrace him. "Hi," he breathes, "you're right on time." © 2014 Clyde du CoeurAuthor's Note
