What could have been...A Story by Clyde du CoeurOnly thought about this after the moment had passed to be completely honest! This is for someone, I hope you know who you are. And I hope I haven't ruined anything..In retrospect, I had you right where I'd wanted you on previous occasions: In my room. On my bed.
If I willed it, something could happen.
I sat beside you on the blue covers; the mood was just right – I had the power to make a move if I wanted to.
I felt the closeness between us And as I looked at you, I felt a connection.
If only that key hadn't turned in the lock, I honestly thought something could have been.
I was gutted upon hearing voices in the hall; the little lift in my heart had been dropped from a great height.
I had been doubtful about taking you to my room, But excitement had begun to build in my bloodstream.
And just when something could have been, The arrival of elders stole from us what one can only imagine.
Now the moment was truly ruined and the chance was gone Never to be seen again; as both you and I know, never may we see eachother again.
Making the most of your welcome you chatted to the others, Completing the act of innocence, though you had not betrayed anyone.
Like an addict, I craved your lips on mine, Thinking something could have been despite the circumstances.
Maybe I shouldn't have thought those things as we'd been getting on so well, But the moment, the positioning, the mood had been so perfect.
When you left, I felt incomplete and I think I know why; I hadn't requested even something as simple as a farewell embrace:
Although we can't rewind and change our actions, A hug would have sufficed for what could have been.
