~ Big Band, Live ~A Poem by Clyde du CoeurMemories from when I was the vocalist in the St Benedict's Big Band :~}
When I’m on that stage, Suddenly all the nerves fly, Some believe they disappear with age, That’s an absolute lie~ As soon as I start to sing, Adrenaline rushes through my veins And my voice takes to the sky on its wing; I’m on my way, no time to change lanes~ The smiling faces and dancing feet Only encourage me to carry on, Their claps help keep the beat As I continue singing my song~ I’m so thrilled to be part of this band: Without it, I’d be cowering in the corner Not focussing; my head in my hands Jealous as hell, despairing like a mourner~ I’m really proud of the musicians here; It’s not easy to stand up and play, I will always mean it when for them I cheer I wish I wasn’t leaving (this summer) – I want to stay~ After the set and taken our bows, We exit, showering congratulation, Comments of praise and my constant “wows”; This band is a unique source of my inspiration~ Big Band has given me my first taste of group culture, And it’s been so worthwhile, No more the outlook of rejection via vulture; What’s more, it makes me smile~ Thank you for accepting me And feeding my temptation, Not only is the music my sanity, But also my salvation~ © 2008 Clyde du CoeurReviews
