Firefly

Firefly

A Poem by Cloudless

They kept you in a jar
from where you could only watch
the world grow.

Beating your wings helplessly
Against the glass,
unnoticed.

A tiny light in the dark
To keep away nightmares.

While the world grew darkly bright
And rose and fell.

You were a nostalgia
A distant memory of a loved summer
A piece of an enchanted night.

Left behind in a jar,
While you struggle day and night
to join your brothers beneath the moon.

Struggling until your light dims
Until gravity embraces you
And you rest safely in its warmth.
