I Had To

Reminiscing of you being around,
From beginning to end.
Why did it take you so long?
I thought too.

From the moment I saw you,
I knew you belonged to me.
You were not there yet,
It took you some years too.

All this back and forth,
In and out my life.
That door was closed,
It wasn’t meant for you to come back to.

My heart is lost in a fantasy,
Not reality.
I don’t want to think of you,
I didn’t plan to.

This is over,
But why does it ache again.
I know I moved on,
It was hard to convert to.

The pain was unbearable,
We were both hurting.
It was the worst time,
But we tried too.

“Just saying hi to an old friend”,
You know it was more.
That’s why you’re here,
Because you’re still thinking of me too.

I was in love,
But our love was a shipwreck.
It went no where
Where were we sailing to?

It was time to let you go
With tears rolling down my face
I didn’t want to,
But I had to…
