This Twisted Path So FarA Poem by JustCate1/5/23It always begins with bright eyes and a heart full of your own greatness and of all the possibilities. You are ready, you think, to see wherever life takes you. So you pack your bags, and you’re ready to go. There’s no rear view mirror for the show on the road. And you are off. You worked so hard for the privilege to be on your way, that it’s impossible to think you won’t be able to handle it out there on your own. But sometimes, it rains as hard as rain can fall. And you run south, then float north before running south again. Until you find yourself exhausted working at Starbucks and alone. And you cannot understand, though you fight yourself the whole time, how you got stuck lower than you began. Then you learn there is no way out. And no one is coming to save you. Because even if he was on his way, you will always be unreachable. Finally, the pain becomes so great, that you give up on your power and surrender. Because though you tried with all your might, you were never powerful enough to save you from yourself. And there you stood at the jumping off point confused with your abiding hope but no plan to go on. When, in an act of great mercy, he arrived and pulled you away from the edge. And though it didn’t feel the way you thought it would, it got you to the place where you needed to be. To makeup with yourself for all you’ve done wrong So that you could become whole enough to just be. And as the world moves on, you find yourself surprised that with all you’ve seen On this twisted path so far It isn’t weakness or failure but success that brings you back home to where you are meant to be. © 2023 JustCateAuthor's Note
