Goodbye

Goodbye

A Poem by Indoor Downpours

So let me say goodbye
And you can bury me with the rest
All of the secrets inside
The broken hearts and the aching regret
I feel it on your skin
The trees whisper your name so softly
It's in the air you breathe
The longing floating in the breeze
Cover your mirrors
And strike a match to your worries
It's better if it's best for you
And we can dance the rest of our lives away
Hiding in the shade
Letting the shadows devour our flaws
Two dead flies on a windowsill
We've got the time to pretend that nothing is real
You lay your arms down against my chest
And it chases away all the doubt in my head
The nightmares are out and about
In dark alleyways, they're playing cat and mouse
And we hide ourselves away in holes
Praying for dawn to come before these dreams crush our bones
Wrap our bodies in funeral attire
We will run to that holy pyre
Let the fire wash away all the pain
Until all we have left is our forgotten names
