Young LoveA Poem by Indoor DownpoursThe innocence of having your heart stolen.
I really do miss that young love
Not the love that you think you have For someone that you have sex with all the time But the love that makes you contemplate everything in existence The moment you lock eyes with the most beautiful girl you've ever seen. Where you meet someone for the first time And it knocks you down. Hard. You cannot breathe, you cannot speak You can barely even move. Just staring into their eyes Gets you so lost that it takes a minute and thirty-two seconds For you to find your way back to reality And by that time, she's gotten lost in your eyes also And she can't move. And you're both coughing up so many butterflies That you can't tell each other how you really feel, Or explain what just happened. So you wait to see her again And you keep love letter after love letter Hidden under your bed As you write more and more to her Attempting to find words to express the way she makes you feel But it just doesn't happen Then you finally meet again There are no words Just the blissful sound of birds and a cool breeze rustling the leaves of a tree And you want to walk up to her and wrap your arms around her But she's so beautiful that it would be a sin to be anything but reverent So you admire the way the leaves fall around her And you begin to choke when you see her blush You go to her softly, and you stare into those eyes that make the world spin around You're cursing your tongue for failing to make words But just when you nearly fall to pieces She closes the distance And not a thing in the world can come between you And you wrap her into the warmest embrace That even the sun would admire Time stops The world seems so far away that you wonder If you died and went to Heaven in those two minutes But then the wind begins to blow once more And the birds return to their calming dirge And in the ten seconds that it takes to notice that you are not dead, That this is as close to Heaven on Earth as you'd ever known, Her lips touch yours the way you'd always imagined they would But yet it's nothing like you'd ever expected And you know that if you really did die in that moment You would gladly do it over and over again If anything, just to clarify that it really did happen That you're first kiss was with the one That you spent every night of Summer dreaming about Dreaming that you would find her underneath that tall oak tree Clothed in the leaves that are so captured by her beauty That they fall down to her feet And you're both the happiest you've ever been Just seeing the sparkle in her eyes And knowing that you, one in seven billion people in the world, Are the one who put it there. It's the greatest feeling in the world To love someone who loves you And have it be more than enough to keep you smiling And let it be all that you ever need © 2014 Indoor Downpours |
