The truck pulled up to a convenient store and Mark got out and went over to the passenger side.

“Hey honey, I won’t be long.” He said

Kat just nodded her head, “Take your time babe.”

Mark leaned in and gave her a small kiss, then he turned around and headed into the store. Kat sat in the truck when she noticed a baby store just up ahead; she got off and stood in front of the window. On display was the cutest white crib she had ever seen. It had white silk cushion in it with lavender lace going all around it. On one end hung small teddy bears, all different colors and a blue blanket sat folded neatly in the center with dove patterns on it. Small little pillows were on the other end and they also had lavender lace outlining. Kat fell in love with it right away and would show Mark as soon as he came out of the store; Kat was two months pregnant. She and Mark had been married for two years; they bought a house together in Silvertown and Mark is even on the verge of opening his own auto shop. Kat is even going to community college and working on getting her degree in English. Crystal is doing great as well; she’s currently dating John, Mark’s boss. Kat kept admiring the crib when a man walked up behind her.

“Kat?”

As she turned to see who it was, her mouth dropped open. “Vincent, oh my God, hi.”

“Hi. How have you been?”

“I’ve been good, really good.” she replied with a smile. “So what brings you here?”

“I’m just passing through. I’m on my way to Iowa. I have business to do there. You look great, I mean really great.”

Kat recognized the look he was giving her; it was the same look he gave her when they first met. Vincent hadn’t changed one bit.

“So how is everything? Your job and…everything?”

“Well work is going great, but a few things didn’t work out.” He was hinting at the fact that the relationship between him and Gladys was over. Apparently she cheated on him.

“I’m sorry to hear it.” Kat said

“I’ve learned to deal with it.”

“Yea, I’ve learned to deal with my things also.”

A tense silence over came them as they reminisced about what happened nearly four years ago.

“Kat…what I did was wrong, you didn’t deserve that. I know it’s too late for an apology, but if I could take it back I would. I mean I was dumb to let you go.” He came in a little closer and took her hand. Kat just smiled when she realized what his intentions were.

“Don’t worry about it Vincent, if it weren’t for you I wouldn’t be where I am now.”

“Yea? Where would that be?”

“Happily married and expecting.”

“I’m sorry what?” Vincent wasn’t sure he heard her right.

“Yea, I’ve been married for two years and now I’m two months pregnant.”

“Wow, really?” He said extremely surprised, he let go of her hand and took a step back.

“Yup, I’m really happy.”

“God Kat that is…that is great. I’m so happy for you, congratulations. I know you’re going to be a great mom.” Vincent sighed realizing his chance with her had long since pass. “Well I better get going. Take care of yourself Kat, I wish you all the best…I really do.”

“I wish you all the best too.”

They gave each other a friendly hug and said goodbye. Just then Mark came out and saw Vincent walk away from Kat. He put the bag of munchies in the truck, walked up to her and wrapped an arm around her shoulders.

“Who was that?” he asked.

“An old friend.”

“Oh” he turned around and saw the crib in the window. “Hey look, that’s a nice crib. It’d be great for the baby.”

“Yea I know. I absolutely love it.”

Vincent watched from his Lexus at the happy couple as they entered the store; he couldn’t help but smile. He is really happy for Kat, she deserved nothing but the best, even if that meant it wasn’t him.

Kat and Mark finally got home; the crib was just at their price range and would arrive in 2-4 weeks. Their house is red brick with white shutter windows. They didn’t have a fence, but colorful flowers outlined their yard. Mark unlocked the big oak door and they walked into a small hallway that led into the living room. White carpet covered the entire floor throughout the house except the kitchen that had tile. The living room had small chimney in a corner, two pearl colored sofa’s, a rocking chair and a TV. The walls had pictures of their wedding day, picnics, people from work and nights out on the town with John and Crystal. Kat went to their bedroom to lie down on their Queen sized bed, Mark went on the other side and laid down next to her. He placed a hand on her belly and kissed her cheek, she then let out a long sigh.

“You ok?” Mark asked

“Yea, I’m just a little tired.” She replied

“Oh, you hungry?”

“A little, did you get my cheetos from the store?”

“Yea I left them in the car. I’ll be right back.” He got off the bed and ran out of the room.

Kat got up to change into one of her house shirts, she walked over to the cabinet’s that had her clothes and pulled out a t-shirt, she then noticed a worn out notebook at the bottom. She picked it up wondering what it had, and then a smile came over her face as she opened it. It’s been so long since she’s written in her journal. She was flipping through the pages re-reading her entries. She couldn’t get over how much she’s grown in the last few years. She turned to the last page, grabbed a pen and wrote her final entry which was only one sentence long.

Dear Journal,

This girl is not longer broken!

The End

It's nice to see that everything stayed well for your characters. I find it amazing that so much happened to Kat in such a short period of time. Well done on your series.
