Kat put away the last of her clothes in the beau; it was the first time in months that she has full unpacked her bags. She looked around her bedroom, it was fairly big and the walls were bare, but she would soon hang posters and fill the shelves with pictures. She walked into the living room and sat down on the couch and turned on the TV. The living room’s walls were also bare and so were the shelves, but her newly bought apartment would soon be decorated. Just then, Crystal walked in with bags of groceries in both hands.

“Hey.” She said with a smile.

“Hey. Did you get everything?” Kat asked

“Yeah I did.” She went into the kitchen and placed the bags on the table. Kat went over and helped her put them away.

An entire month has passed since the fight with Damien. About two weeks after he was arrested they testified in court and he was sentenced to five years in jail. When it was all done, they piled everything into the Mustang and Kat took Crystal to the only place that ever came close to being called home, Silvertown.

Once they arrived that morning, the first place they went was Buck’s diner; when she walked in Buck was so ecstatic to see her.

“Kat! Oh my God is it really you?” he said

“Hi Buck.”

He quickly went and gave her a big ole bear hug. She gave a small shriek as he picked her up.

“How have you been?” He asked as he set her down.

“I’ve been good. This is my friend Crystal.” She pointed behind her.

“Hello. Come, sit, you girls hungry? Its on the house, Beth can you take their order?” He led them to a booth and a waitress took their order. They sat and talked, Kat told him where she was at and how she met Crystal. She left the whole thing about Damien out, she didn’t want Crystal to start her new life as the girl that got abused by her boyfriend.

Buck wasn’t shy about offering Kat her job back and even one for Crystal. What makes a man so kind and generous is something Kat will never know. Soon after, they went to a nearby apartment complex, they each had some money to pay for the first three months, but they only paid for two and put the rest to groceries.

As they put the last of the groceries away, they went and sat on the couch. Crystal then just started staying at Kat, smiling.

“What?” Kat asks. Crystal keeps staring, not saying anything. “What are you staring at?”

“He’s probably out of work by now.”

“Who?”

“You know who.”

“I wouldn’t know where to start. Its been so long, he probably has a girlfriend already.”

“Well you never know unless you go see him.”

“Oh come on, we just got settled in and I’m tired.”

“Ok now you’re just making excuses.”

Kat just snorted and crossed her arms. “I’m not going.”

Crystal got up and dragged Kat to her feet. “That’s it, I’m kicking you out.” She started pushing her to the door.

“What?! Crystal, what are you doing?”

She pushed Kat right out the door and closed it. “I’m not letting you back in until you see Mark.” She yelled through the door.

“This is ridiculous! Let me in!” she banged on the door and tried opening it but Crystal had locked it from the inside. There was no way Kat was getting into the apartment. “You suck!”

“I love you too.”

Kat turned away from the door and headed towards the auto shop. Her heart beat faster and faster with every step she took. She was across the street when she saw him; he hadn’t change one bit, except that his hair was shorter. He was in his work jumpsuit working on a Toyota. She saw that he was wearing the shirt she bought him underneath, that made her smile. She took a deep breath, then another for good luck and crossed the street.

When she walked up to him, he had his back to her; he was busy looking for a wrench in the tool box. She raised her hand and tapped him lightly on the shoulder.

He was so busy looking for that wrench, he didn’t bother turning around. He just gave a quick glance, not noticing it was Kat.

“Can I help you?” he asked professionally.

“Hi Mark.” Kat’s voice was so shaky; she didn’t know what kind of reaction he was going to give her for her return.

Mark stopped everything he was doing and slowly turned around. He just stared at her thinking it was all just a dream. When Kat left he was so heartbroken. He would just mope around his house or at work. He started getting over it little by little after a while, but not completely. He even had dreams about her, how she came back or that she never really left at all. He missed her so much, missed her soft skin, the way her hair blew in the wind, how her hazel eyes looked green when the sun shined on them just right. Yes he met a girl or two after, but none compared to her. Mark was glad Kat came back, but he still was a little hurt that she left in the first place.

“When…you came…hi.” So many thoughts were going through his mind. He wanted to pick her up and kiss her all over, but at the same time he wanted to scold her. “When did you get here?”

“This morning. I moved into an apartment with a friend.”  Silence overcame them and they just stood there staring at each other.

“Oh well, welcome back.” He said. He turned away and was going back to work, but Kat turned him back around.

“Mark wait. I know it was wrong to leave the way I did, but I had to figure a few things out on my own. I didn’t want to drag you into my problems; they were my burdens to bear.”

“You should’ve let me helped you, I cared about you.” Mark replied

“I didn’t want to bother you. You life was going smoothly, I didn’t want to ruin that.” Mark’s face was just a blank expression; he gave no hint of whether or not he forgave. “I thought about you everyday…I couldn’t stop even if I tried.” Kat said.

He didn’t say anything at first; he just stared at his feet. He then looked at her and gave her a hug; they held each other for a minute, then Mark whispered in her ear, “I thought about you everyday also.”

Kat tighten her embrace and nestled her head in his chest. She missed the way he smelled and the way he held her; she was so happy to be back. Mark stroked her head and lifted her chin up and kissed her, it was the most passionate kiss a person can give to another person.

Once they pulled away, Mark turned his head and yelled, “Hey John, taking the rest of the day off!”

A few minutes later they were on Mark’s bed making out like a couple of teenagers. His apartment was nothing special, it had a couch, a TV, take out menus cluttered the kitchen table and piles of clothes were all over the floor. Being the perfect guy doesn’t necessarily mean knowing how to cook and clean. They finally came up for air and Mark looked into Kat’s eyes.

“You gonna be here tomorrow morning?”

“Of course I will…I love you.”

He smiled and started kissing her neck. “Say it again.”

“I love you.”

Kat didn’t write in her notebook that night or the night after, she was too busy with Mark. In fact, she never wrote in her notebook again; she didn’t need to anymore. She was enjoying the life she was too scared to start. She had a decent job with an awesome boss, a best friend that comes  once in a lifetime and a guy she can’t get enough of; Kat finally got her happy ending.

Okay because of Hurricane Kosnor that came thru here about a month ago , I felt I missed something. I still like the style it's written in but because it's been a while since the last reading I feel like I missed something.
Not your fault. This seems like the end and it probably is. I'll go on to the next one and see.

small typo thing
just started staying at Kat, smiling

Your writing is crisp and moves nicely. Very efficient in describing the emotional development as well as the settings.

You have very good skills with the pen.
