Diary of a Broken Girl: Day 67A Chapter by Dead AngelShe becomes somone elses angel of mercy! It’s been four days since the argument between Kat and Crystal and things haven’t begun to get better. Crystal’s black eye was almost gone; it went from a black, purplish color to a faded grey. Kat tried talking to her but she changed her schedule around so her shift started before or after Kat’s. She didn’t want to call her at home because she was afraid Damien would pick up, and who knows what she told him about what happened. Being out of contact with her was nerve wrecking. She couldn’t stop worrying about her even is she tried. She just hoped that everything was ok…that she was ok. Then all of a sudden, Slater entered her mind and she realized just how similar both men were. She started thinking about that night when he tried to rape her, how scared she was and how Mark saved her. Oh Mark! Kat still smiles and gets butterflies in her stomach whenever she thought of him. She started wondering what he would do in a situation like this. She finished her shift at the store and drove to a nearby 7/11 to get some munchies. She grabbed a bag of chips, a soda and a candy bar and was walking toward the register when Damien walked in. She was a little bit on edge as she stood behind him. “15 on pump 2 and a pack of Marlboro cigarettes.” He said. He looked at Kat, who was fumbling with her change. “So you’re Kat, huh?” She looked up wondering how he knew that. “Excuse me?” “You work at Gina’s with Crystal, right?” He pointed at her name tag. Kat looked down and forgot that she still had it on. “Oh yea, I do.” “Do me a favor? Stay the f**k away from her!” “What?” “You heard me. She told me all about your little argument at work. Where the hell do you get off telling someone to leave her boyfriend? Do you like ruining people’s lives?” The cashier handed Damien his change and was ringing up Kat’s total. You could tell he was feeling a little uneasy about being in the middle of the conversation. He started walking out the store and towards his bike. Kat quickly paid for her stuff and ran after him. “Do you like hitting women?” She yelled. Damien grabbed the pump and started putting gas in his bike. “If you’re talking about Crystal’s black eye, she got that when she walked into a door.” “She said it was a box that slipped from the attic.” He looked up at Kat, eyeballing her. “Yea, that’s what I meant.” She walked in closer to him. “Do you think the police are going to believe either story?” He stopped pumping and looked at her sternly. She turned to walk away when he yanked her roughly by the arm. She let out a gasp of pain as he squeezed his hand on her arm. He pulled her in close and she could smell smoke and alcohol on him. “Listen b***h! If you know what’s good for you, you’ll mind your own f*****g business!” He said through gritted teeth. He stared at her for a while before he let her go. He hung up the pump, got on his bike and drove off, leaving Kat a little shaken. A few hours later, she was in her hotel room sitting at the table. Her arm was still hurting but not as much. She though writing in her notebook would calm her down a little. Dear Journal, Well I ran into Damien today, unfortunately. He’s an even bigger a*****e than I thought. He even threatened me to stay away from Crystal, but that’s not going to happen. Little b*****d is not going to get the best of me. Crystal has helped me see where I truly belong and when I go back, I plan on taking her with me, far away from him. Just then her phone rang. It was pretty strange since no one calls her at the hotel; then she realized that it might be Crystal. She ran to the phone and quickly picked it up. “Hello?” “Kat?” said a shaky voice “Crystal? Is that you? What’s wrong hon?” “I need you to come get me, please.” She begged, she sounds terrified. “I’m on my way sweetie, don’t worry, just stay where you are.” Kat hung up the phone, got her keys and sprinted to her car. Once she was in the car, she put on her seat belt and sped off. She had given Crystal a ride home once a few weeks ago, but she still knew the way. She ran through stop signs and dodged traffic; finally she pulled up to her home. She quickly parked her car and ran up the driveway. The house was small and white with a yard that had brown spots all over. The driveway had grease stains on it and motorcycle skid marks. She ran up to the door and knocked on the door. When no one answered she barged in, the site of the home terrified her. There were magazines thrown all over the place, chairs were thrown to their side and broken figurine pieces covered the floor. “Crystal?!” She yelled praying for a response. “Kat?” Crystal came out from a corner of the living room. She had a cut lip, her nose was bleeding a little and her black eye was worse than ever. Kat ran up to her and gave her a huge hug. Now that she was closer, she saw a whole bunch of bruises on her arms, but the sight of her neck turned her white. “Jesus Christ Crystal! Are those rope burns?” “Yea he grabbed it from the curtains. He told me he saw you today and that he didn’t want you near me or else and I said or else what. Then he just gave me a stern look and I said to leave you alone and he said don’t talk back to him and I said to just leave you alone and that’s when he lost it. He started attacking me and I fought back as best I could. He started punching and kicking me and I scratched and clawed at him. Finally, he just gave up and left. B*****d!” “Ok well we have to get out of here before he comes back and we have to notify the police.” Crystal shook her head in agreement and Kat helped her up. They went to the bedroom at the other side of the house to pack a bag. Kat told Crystal to go to the bathroom and get cleaned up while she got a bag and began putting clothes in. As Kat put the last of her clothes in, Crystal walked up to her and gently grabbed her arm. “Thanks Kat, for everything.” Kat looked at her and held her hand. “Of course, I’ll always be here for you.” They both smiled at each other and then hugged. “Ok let’s go.” They grabbed the bag and headed towards the front door. They were five feet away from exiting the house when Damien walked in. Both girls stopped dead in their tracks, like a deer in the headlights. When Damien saw Kat standing there and Crystal holding the bag, he was infuriated. “Damien…I…” Crystal was so scared she couldn’t finish the sentence. “You thinking of leaving me?” he said, his face was getting red. He then made a B line toward her. “After everything I’ve done for you, THIS IS HOW YOU THANK ME?!” he grabbed her by the neck and threw her against the wall. Crystal hit it with a loud thud and fell to the floor. Damien was about to kick her, but Kat jumped on his back, trying to stop him. He just ran backwards into a wall squishing her hard. He turned around and grabbed her by the hair and threw her into a shelf that had pictures and small statues. Damien then turned his attention back to Crystal, who was a little light headed. “YOU F*****G THINK YOU CAN LEAVE ME! JUST LIKE THAT!” He grabbed her by her shirt and pinned her against the wall. “Damien…Stop…Please!” He banged her against the wall and started screaming in her face. “YOU’RE NOT GOING ANYWHERE!” Crystal started fighting him off, but he slapped her across the face, wrapped his hands around her neck and choking her. She tried to loosen his grip, but he was too strong. Kat was a little out of it, since she hit her head when she was thrown, but she snapped out of it when she saw Damien choking Crystal. She looked around for something to use as a weapon; she saw a board lying next to her and grabbed it. She ran behind him and wacked him hard on the head with the board. Damien went limp and fell to the floor, Kat dropped the board and Crystal ran up to her and gave her a big hug. They called the police who arrived 20 minutes later. They gave all three of them medical attention, Damien just had a bump on the head and was then arrested and put in a police car. Kat was with Crystal as the paramedics tended to their wounds. Kat had a small bump and Crystal only had minor cuts and bruises. The medics wanted to take them to hospital but they said they were fine. Once they finished talking to the police Kat took Crystal to her hotel room. Once they got there Crystal set her stuff down on the bed and started weeping. Kat quickly went up to her and put her hands on her shoulders. “Crystal, honey, what’s wrong? It’s over, Damien is gone.” “It’s not that.” She turned to her with a tear stained face. “What am I going to do now? Everything was in his name. The house, the bike, everything; I have nothing.” “Hey, that’s not true. You’ve got me and together, we’ll get through this.” “How? No offense, but we can’t just live out of a hotel for the rest of our lives.” Kat started giggling, she couldn’t help it. She kept thinking about how she was in that same position a few months ago and wondered if she was that hysterical. “I cannot believe your laughing! Kat this is serious!” “I know, I know, but you need to calm down, sweetie. Ok? And don’t worry about where we’re going to stay, I’ve got an idea.” “What?” Crystal asked curiously Kat just stood there and smiled. © 2008 Dead AngelReviews
