It’s 12 pm and Kat is heading to her first day at Buck’s Diner. She was a bit nervous since she has never waitress in her life; she was a hostess once, but no for very long. As soon as she arrived, Buck was quick to put her to work.
“Oh Kat you’re here, good. This is Maggie and she’s going to train you.” A girl, no older than Kat, came from behind Buck. “Ok, I’ll leave you two at it then.”
“Alright let’s get started. Um…I'll start by showing you around and then we’ll go through the menu together. Ok?” she said with a smile.
“Ok.” Kat replied with a smile as well. It felt strange for her to do so since she had nothing to smile about for the past few weeks.
Maggie finished showing Kat around the diner, where the clean dishes were, and where the dirty dishes went. She then went thoroughly over the menu and gave her a few practice runs on taking orders.
After awhile Kat got the flow of things and was off for lunch. Buck gave her a free meal, since it was her first day and all. She took it and sat in a booth towards the back of the restaurant. She took out her notebook once again and began writing.
Dear Journal,
Well things seem to be lifting up, I got a job at a quaint little diner; I’m making good money what with tips and all. It’s only been a day and I can’t help but think that I belong here. Buck, my manager, has been nothing but nice since I arrived and even talked Betty, the manager at the hotel I’m staying at, into giving me a room for free. This town is so nice, I don’t think I’m going to be leaving anytime soon. I may have finally found that something I’ve been looking for, I may have found home.
Kat closed the notebook and for once in a long time, she felt happy.
