The Marathon of VeniceA Poem by Michael KnightThis was an intense dream I had about my former loveTwilight sets in The city streets filled with new faces Running on this cobblestone I run to my finish line
60 years worth of work will not stop me The thunder in the sky can keep getting louder In this part of the world, lights guide my direction To see, to look, to search, to claim
Your drunken phone calls to me are heavy Not worth my attention, not who you are To settle it's not so bad, until you realize You were the brightest star in my universe
Running with pains on the ankles Pains that have numbed my heart Pains that tell me to quit Pains that I will endure to get even tougher with it
I arrive after a frantic search, your fort is not easy access You're wearing the leopard dress I bought you A lamp light over your desk with all your papers Just scattered, showing a big mess in your mind
The flood gates open in your eyes, And your breath of aged wine I didn't know who was more confused My stubborn arrival? or your readiness of my presence?
We embrace tightly like eyes shut And you start to explore my neck with your lips A road you know you can't go back on A road you never worried to look back on © 2012 Michael Knight |
