In Another LifeA Poem by Michael KnightAbout the former love I hadThings began so well Had impromptu diner food Coffee and rye toast It felt like true freedom Defeating the Axis and Ike with a nice picket fence with Chucks I swear it was another time period We were attracted to each other First sight, at first smile
Things went well during that time Our swing went really high and low and high It was adventure and enlightening experience I got to have you We had each other We talked about tomorrow, today Yesterday was just a memory Today is our dream Tomorrow is our imagination.
Things didn't go so well for a bit Forever young was in your mind While I was ahead in in time I am tainted with your greatest hits Never again to be played for me I was 34, I had just started my life To begin with the end
Our story didn't have a good ending Not sure if the follow up is worth it Spending endless nights with a void A darkness of drained patience Drowning in indulgence and sin
Why do we fall? To look up or down To come back and face it To fight from within To love and be loved
The stars are in a familiar position I feel the same as I did that night years ago Optimistic smirk rushes in Wanting you to be my muse again And I can be your Superman As I lie here waiting... In another life Things will go well again © 2012 Michael Knight |
