In The Mind of Madness

In The Mind of Madness

A Poem by Michael Knight

This is the end. Walking around. Minding my own business.

And there I see it. A hole. Maybe a cave of sorts?

or just a burrow from a gopher?

seems pretty small, I can fit down.

I begin my descent, its dark, cold

and the most creepiest thing: The sound of silence

yes, it does have a sound, its nothing

maybe the lowest form of static

I hear a shriek, I dont have a flashlight

the only light is coming from the hole above

I try not to stand in it, so whatever "it" was

or is wont see me.

I hear a thud, right next to me

and jump away to escape whatever it was

and jump into the light. I close my eyes

scared, frighted, my stomach squeezing itself out.

I open my eyes. I look up to get out of here, but

cant, there is a glass where the hole is, and I see somebody

writing down something, I call out for help, but does not hear me

I try to break the glass, and do so while breaking my hand

In doing so begin the screams, the shrieks, the agony,

the pain, the suffering, the emotion, the cries, the grief,

all coming into the cave from the hole. I try to cover my ears

but its too much, I cant take it, I don't want it, I just want

it to be over but this is just the beginning.
