The Midnight Run

The Midnight Run

A Poem by Michael Knight
"

Driving on the highway late at night, had to rush to get home to write this as it came to me after watching The Wraith

"
My time is just about up.
I get in my car, turn the ignition
feel it come alive
dimly lit lights telling me my speed
and my track timer, a shaded green
I find the streets, look at the bodies without souls
and penitent bodies wanting a purpose, the armies
of the night watching my every move, listening to what i hear
The Boss on the radio.

My time is just about up
I ride on the highway, the yellow lamp posts illuminate my only path
going steady now, the roads are hardly visible
the moon steps in as a spotlight, following my journey into the night
I feel a rush, I'm on fire, I can taste it,
down by the valley, I see where I am, and look forward to the unknown

My time is just about up. but I want to go back,
but we need to move forward
hold my hand
just sit tight with me and together
we take the midnight run
