Who Are You Now America? What Do You Stand For?

Echo Poem (Based on America by Allen Ginsberg)

"

America what has happened to you

Why have you forgotten where you’ve come from?

The struggles which happened in order to form the country?

The people who died in your name?

The people who fought for your cause?

America why are you now the tormentor

The tormentor of the poor, the minority, the weak, the oppressed

What happened with your motto of being that light of hope?

The supposed haven for those who are the oppressed, the weak, the minority, and the poor

America who are you now?

I don’t seem to recognize you.

Neither does anyone else it seems

You’ve become a stranger to your own people

America don’t you see what your nation has become

Don’t you see that, that once bright flag is now tainted

Tainted with the blood of the victims of your issues

America what can I say I don’t know what you stand for anymore

Do you?

Do you know what you stand for anymore?

Are you still that light of hope in this hopeless world?

Or will you continue along and join the darkness that plagues this world

Because America I’m tired

I’m tired of hearing of the news of deaths of innocent lives

Tired of the oppression of minorities

The people who create this nation

I’m tired of being looked down upon just because I’m a woman

A minority,

Someone who isn’t capable of changing what America is right now

I’m tired of the freedoms that you say I have but don’t really have

The lies from the people I’m supposed to trust to represent me

The false hope that not only I but everyone receives

America I’m just plain tired

And yet don’t you realize America that you can stop this

You can put an end on this oppression

On the discrimination, the Prejudice, the Hate, the Violence, The Hurt, and the Killing

You alone can do this

You can make the change

Because America if you don’t do this who will?

Why not stop and start anew?

Rethink what you stand for

Is it freedom, democracy, hope, or love?

Is it all of the above?

But America it’s time to wise up

To think straight and get your act together

Because a new generation is coming and we can’t go on like this.

Enough is enough America

It’s time to look back to our roots and search once again for our voice

Our voice which will tell us what we stand for.

What do you stand for America

Time is up and the choice is yours.
