Ode to FlowersA Poem by Claire LorraineOde to Flowers I sing a song of love and admiration to the flowers of my garden: Lovely Lilacs vibrant & tame, elegant & wistful in one refrain Royal Iris a stately lady regal & wise, she stands amid those that reign and rise Pure Gardenia untainted and true, she is incandescent as her hue Ruffled Sweet-Pea twirls and sways like a little girl’s laughter and springtime’s rays Wishful Wisteria climbs and leans down raining bliss over man’s crown Sweet Snowdrops found are winter’s treasure & hope renowned Delightful Daffodils playful enter the field and prepare the way for the floral guild Precious Peony blushes they say, as she offers a kiss like a bride on her wedding day Constant Camellia durable in winter dainty once plucked withers away, yet ancient stands & fresh blooms are born anew today Magnificent Magnolia glistens high above as she greets the morning sun Tender Tulips a prism of colors, a rainbow made low for the human hand to hold and glow Lily of the Valley so simple & sweet is both fae’s wells and May’s bells Ravishing Rose beauty perfected in a myriad of ways, exquisite goddess of the garden always © 2014 Claire LorraineReviews
