Speak

Speak

A Poem by Elwina

So much unsaid

Your throat so tight

So will you only speak

For telling lies

I opened up for you

Revealed naked to light

Took all the risks that I had to

Still you stay quiet

Will you keep your mouth shut

Until for air you choke

To retain every trembling word

Stuck down your throat

Will you silence your heart

Let the regret devour you

From when you watched me burn

But stood untrue

Should my voice only echo

In the hollow of my mind

Just turn my back and go

Leave before I drown

Should I bite my lips

Until blood soaks my shirt

Keep swallowing my tears

Until it dries my heart

Should I get on my knees

For you to finally look into my eyes

Reveal all the thoughts and feelings

That eat you alive

Should I speak

Try to reach you

Will you hear it

All the way through

Or should I close my eyes

And walk right past you

As you hide in deny

Like you always do

I drained my heart for you

Faced all my fears to fight

As much as you love me

Still you stayed quiet

The reader is given the effect of everything in one single glance. This made me think of those couples sitting in cafes in total silence, not know when the bomb will be dropped. The flow was nice, thou you may need to put a few more breaks and pauses.

Great release of questioning emotions. Silence is sometimes caused by an overwhelming of information that for whatever reason cannot be resolved. sometimes nospeak is better than random response. sometimes a response cannot be denied, even if it is the painful.

Sometimes not saying something says more then when you do doesn't it Claire?

You deserve the best, I hope you find it someday, soon!

a bitter sweet of expression of what words unsaid can do to a lover
one is left to fill in the blanks of the loud silence
it is not fair to be left with this deed of trying to read another mind
you've made us aware of what things unsaid can do...
thank u
