Theological Thoughts

A Story by Claire

Humans are animals. We are no different than a dog. We are no different than the protists that float aimlessly. When we die, our bodies rot into the earth, and the cycle of life goes on.
The idea of death; the idea that we will lose loved ones and never speak to them again, is too much for some people to handle.
The concept that all the things we've accomplished in our lifetime will be forgotten after we die, is so disturbing to some people that they refuse to believe it.
Instead, they'd rather live in a fantasy world, where souls never die and a place where we will see all our loved ones when we die.

People need hope, something for them to look forward to, especially if their life has been tough. They create a delusion of a perfect place, with no pain or tears, so they won't feel they have become a failure.

A human mind created the bible.

Although science has proved most of the stories from the bible to be false, people are still drawn to Christianity.
Why?
The concept of being able to obtain forgiveness no matter what you've done, is quite appealing. The idea that there the creator of the entire universe loves you and will condemn people who have done you wrong and send them to a eternal pit of fire, is also tempting to believe.

We are selfish animals who kill one another, hate one another, and wish horrible things to happen to one another.

"Sin" could also be defined as behaviors that are considered destructive to relationships and love. Examples consist of: lying, cheating, adulatory, murder, and so on.
The "bible" is just a collection of different moral expectations for basic survival and ways to avoid conflict.

And, why is it that, according to the bible, only humans can go to heaven? Plants, animals, bacteria, and insects are living things as well, why isn't there a place in the bible that describes where they go after death?
There isn't, because humans are selfish; and the man who wrote the bible was a narcissic and selfish in his thinking.

Why do people give up life's pleasures for an afterlife that isn't even guaranteed?

I think this is very powerful. Feels like I could have written it myself. You seemed to have taken this directly from my thoughts. The thing is...the story is missing. If you can create characters within these thoughts and have these ideas flowing throughout it would be much more powerful I think. I enjoyed reading this very much

Interesting thoughts. Would you say that the purpose of this life is our pleasure?
