Why Should I Bother

Why Should I Bother

A Poem by Civiana
"

Something I managed to come up with while listening to my great aunt read the "Holy Bible" to me.

"

Why should I bother

To cry at night,

It's what's expected of a woman,

It's allowed to do it in sight

Why should I bother

To dress in nice clothes

It's a sin for women to attract innapropriate men,

Why should I bother

To date or to fall in love

If  Father desides he doesn't like him

I will only have to discard him

Or stay with him and be disowned

Why should I bother

To speak in a public place

In my mind I feel so proud

But for a woman to think for herself is a disgrace

Why Should I bother

To pray to my God outloud

When a woman leads a prayer with men present

The message is to fall upon a deaf ear

Why should I bother

Living this life anyway

If God hates me for the body I was born into

I should rid myself of it right away.

Author's Note

Civiana
I put myself in the shoes of a girl who was raised in a severe sexist branch of mormon.
Please do not be angered if I have offended you (Like if you were mormon) I have nothing against you and am not trying to start a fight.

I hope you enjoy this poem.
