An Occasion of Sin

An Occasion of Sin

A Poem by Cindasoo
"

My favorite of my poems-- about temptation

"

Her heart belongs to someone else,

She wears another’s ring-

But the song within her soul

In his presence, learns to sing-

She feels the passion left behind,

The hunger unfulfilled,

She tastes the needs she set aside

The want she thought she killed.

His kisses light a passion fire

Burning deep within-

Her being fills with hot desire

For an Occasion of Sin.

The lips that once yearned for a vow

Hunger now for his kiss,

And she’s risking all of heaven

For this momentary bliss-

“Let my soul rot for eternity,”

She says with eyes so grim-

“For Hell itself cannot burn

The way I do for him.”

He promises no reassurance-

He offers not his heart,

And it tests her own endurance

To feel her marriage fall apart.

But the taste of sweet happiness

As brief as it may seem-

Comes to her and comforts her

Like a dream within a dream;

And she cannot fight the hunger

To have this solace sweet,

Tho she’s turned her back on heaven

She’s finally complete.

The ring slips off her finger

And it clatters on the floor-

Her thoughts begin to linger

On walking out the door-

Temptation pulls her onward

And she cannot stop and turn,

For without this passion, she is lost

And this lust, she cannot spurn-

So she walks out the open door

And starts her life with him-

Giving all eternity

For an Occasion of Sin.

The angels weep with sorrows

Heaven’s gates fill with the tears

For the loss of her tomorrows

Confirms the cynic’s fears"

Heaven without passion

Is a wasteland for the dead,

Goodness, honesty, and sweetness

Seldom turn a lover’s head.

The path into paradise

Is narrow and is hard-

In the end, the Devil’s hand

Holds the winning card-

Hope within the human breast

Eternal does it spring

And one will give eternal rest

To feel the spirit sing

Hell eternal is her choice

When it is time to choose

For passion now is sweeter

Than what she has to lose

Let her soul burn in the flame-

She will do so with a grin

Thinking back, without shame

To an Occasion of Sin.

I love the way that you lead the way with your heart. Most of us would wallow in the heart pain, go off of the track, lose focus on the theme and thrust of the piece. The emotion holds these together here. The message, and conveyance of your emotional roller coaster, stay clean and true. And the cadence! Brilliant!

About
I'm a poet, a dreamer, and insomniac. I have my demons- I let them come out and dance. I finally know love, and passion, and hope. So.... I guess I am an artist, of a sort. more..
