Happiness

There are moments of elation

A feeling of utter bliss

A smile will form from ear to ear

Right now I am at peace

 

Time moves forward

All things must change

Tranquility can save me

But moments are scarce

 

My emotions laid bare

My soul locked in a keep

All good things must come to an end

Just as an ocean will run deep

I liked this. But I tend to disagree with the you. I agree that we experience moments of elation, tranquility, peace, true happiness - like glimpses of heaven on earth - throughout our lives. But I believe that they do not need to end; they do not need to be only glimpses. For me the key to living in that peaceful state is living in the present, fully and completely. Most of us are trapped in time, trapped in nostalgia or sadness about the past, or trapped in hope or fear about the future. But if you learn to relinquish the desire to escape the present to a better time, a better place; if you learn to fully accept and embrace the moment, then the moments of peace and happiness that you describe in this poem become more frequent - in fact, they become the norm. At least, this is what I have found in my life. Great poem.
