Individuality vs. Conformity

Individuality vs. Conformity

A Poem by Gathering_Stars

Individuality vs. Conformity
The eternal battle rages
Who is different, who is not
The setting for the stages

Curtain opens on a scene
Of intellect vs. common sense
People struggle to maintain identity
While living under pretense

Everyone is different
They say it all the time
But if everyone is different
They're all the same in rhyme

If one were to think a thought,
How many have pondered this before?
If one were to say a phrase,
Is it theirs or something more?

Individuality vs. Conformity
Pushed far beyond wit's end
Oh how we as people have tried to define them
TIme and time again

Can a person measure unusual,
Different or insane?
To what standard are we held?
Or is this just a game?

Do we play with people's emotions?
Or is the chess set the human race?
Are we so blindly manipulated?
Shall I rest my case?

Individuality vs. Conformity
Is told as right or wrong;
To be true to one's own morals
Or to join the throng

Herein lies the climax
Of a real-life tragedy
For we see ourselves as individuals
But we must ask ourselves, are we?

Individuality vs. Conformity
Have we come to resolution?
Have we found a definition?
Do we know there truly is one?

I like the subject matter here with this one...you ask a lot questions in the final lines of this piece... Individuality vs. Conformity...and leave the reader to the answers:

Have we come to resolution?
Have we found a definition?
Do we know there truly is one?

I'm pretty sure that vampires, Harry Potter, and Albert Einstein live in a parallel universe. Actually I think that Albert Einstein somehow mis-haped himself into ours by some freak accident; althoug.. more..
