Just Smile

Just Smile

A Poem by Cibs

They tell me to smile,
it's just an upturn of lips
and really...
it is so much better than frowning.

Just smile,
it lights up your face,
and plus...
no one really cares if you're drowning.

So that's what I do...
I put on a smile.

I turn up my lips,
even put a little extra spring in my kick.

I laugh at your jokes,
pretend life is okay,
because really?
Who am I to say?

I push and I shove,
and I dig and I bury.
And I start to believe
that I truly am happy.

But then it gets to that time
when the dark starts to set,
and the safe starts to crack
with the secrets I've kept.

Your piece had a very nice flow and rhythm to it, I'm glad you shared it with us. You don't have to smile for anyone just to make them feel comfortable.
