CrossroadsA Poem by Laylani MullaneEveryone stands at one more then once in life. I'm at one at the moment and am so unsure of what to do.I stand before the crossroads Behind me the barred times of years passed Glittering and churning With laughter and tears alike. Those I know, I want to go back to them. I throw my wary body against the bars, Clawing to get back to the known But I must stop. I can't go back. I can only reminisce I can only remember. So my eyes turn to before me, The path dark and foreboding. Laughter tinkles from the black pall Drawing me forward, Encouraging me and giving me hope Of what lies ahead, But as I stretch my hand forward I hear snarls and feel spikes Of the barriers yet to be passed. I stand before the crossroads Behind me the barred times of wanted years passed Before me the darkened time of times yet experienced Filled with promises of pain and pleasure. I cannot forever stand still, But when will I find the strength to move? When will I no longer fear the inevitable? When? © 2009 Laylani MullaneReviews
