Perfect Imperfection

Perfect Imperfection

A Poem by Laylani Mullane
"

I get compared a lot to different people, because I'm not pretty enough, or smart enough. But I like who I am. I love being different.

"

You call me a freak, yeah so I've heard.
A weirdo, a b***h, yada yada yada
Oh and we simply cannot forget
A perverted motherfu…fornicator.
My mind does have the tendency to stray to the gutter, but that's it!
Let's move on.
None of this is new to me,
I've heard them all before.

I know that if you look up perfect in the dictionary
You won't find a picture of me.
Now if there was an entry for perfectly imperfect?
That's exactly where I'll be
And this I state quite proudly.
I enjoy being imperfect and love being weird.
Keeps life interesting.

People want a world where everything is flawless.
Where everyone resembles a celebrity or god in someway.
A cookie cutter world of perfect people.
Oh it would be perfect all right.
Perfectly boring!

Imperfection is perfect because
It adds diversity,
Adds spice to the melting pot of a world we live in.

Who wants the ultimate body, seriously?
….okay well I do.
But I want my perfect body on my terms,
Not someone else's.
I want my ideal job, house and life
My way.
Not according to some magazine or talk show host.

I am flawed.
I'm 19 and 5 foot nothin.
I love horror movies
And moths scare the hell outta me.
I cuss and no I'm not in shape,
Unless you remember a circle is a shape.

My skin is covered with bumps, tattoos and scars.
No in the modeling world I would not go far.
But that's okay.
Because I enjoy my perfectly imperfect life
And I live it my way.

I love the term "perfectly imperfect". This is well written, and makes a "perfectly" valid point. I love the concept of being perfect on your terms, not someone else's. Where would we all be without diversity? In perfect Hell, I suppose. I love the "circle is a shape". That means I am a perfect shape. I love this. Nicely done. Something we all can and should relate to!

Sharp poem. I like it a lot actually. i am glad you can embrace yourself, and realize your flaws and strengths. It reads so personal, that I feel right along with you. good job. also i added you as a friend. i think you should read my poem, "false state of perfection" if you get a chance. it's very similar to this one, about image and plastic surgery. thanks for sharing this great piece.

About
For me poetry is about emotion, and most of the time when I write I try not to edit too much, if at all, because I believe that it'll only dimish the emotion. For the last few years writing has helpe.. more..
