Joondalup In The Rain

Joondalup In The Rain

A Poem by peter Duggan
"

Walking in the rain by Joondalup Lake

"

Joondalup in the rain

The rain is falling heavily

I am walking by the lake

It’s a walk I take with each new day

I do it for my health’s sake

Walking in the rain, to me

Is the grandest thing to do

With everything all wet, and gleaming

Making morning fresh, and new

I hear my two feet scrape along

As I walk along this trail

The rain comes down with such sweet rhythm

I am living in the now

As trees become to be much greener

And the grass more soft, and velvet

The birds fly into leafy trees

Bedraggled, tired  and wet

I stop and watch the restless lake

Filled with ducks, and other birds

The rain makes patterns on its surface

Oh, how my heart is stirred

By the lonely caw of a big black raven

As he flies into the rain

His aloneness filling all my being

In this wet, Lakeland terrain

Peter,
Walking in the rain seems a particularly British thing. I watch British television a lot and there are many scenes with characters outside while their clothes are dotted by droplets, and they do not even notice. Of course, I live in the semi-desert of the Texas Panhandle where it has only rained once since last summer... that one dropped a desperately needed five inches. It is almost as strange to walk outside when the temperature is a hundred and six for weeks at a time... I wish we could do some sort of trade-off...

Beautiful setting for a beautiful poem with natural experiences. The walk is movement to greener pastures. The mind is stirred to fathom all this beauty. The poet is immersed deep into it all.
