What Price Is Greed

What Price Is Greed

A Poem by peter Duggan
"

Hear thee all our politicians, and rich crooks

"
What Price is Greed
I ask. ‘what causes greed?
Do people realize
That things have no real value
For everything just dies
You can’t take nothing with you
But your soul, when you expire
Could live in peace forever
Or burn in some fierce fire
You are just a fleeting speck of dust
In a life that must have time
You spend a great big hunk of it
Just crawling through the slime
Trying to find some beauty
Within your expectations
Then all you’re guaranteed for sure
Is a thing of your creation
I ask ‘what point is greed?
Have you looked at your desires
Have you ever peeked inside them
And seen there, ferocious fires
You might make a fortune with your greed
In this circle weak and small
Yet eternity’s a great long time
You’ve ahead a great long fall
