Born In Peckham

Born In Peckham

A Poem by peter Duggan
"

The place where I was born

"

Born In Peckham

I was born in the concrete Jungle

Of Peckham, London town

Some folk they Say they loved it

But it just made me frown

I dreamed about the countryside

That’s where I yearned to be

I really hated London town

And I think it hated me

Peckham was a rough old place

And I was sensitive

I had no heart for nastiness

But, where I used to live

There was always so much trouble

And if one weren’t too strong

You sure would find some danger there

From all the local throng

There were so many bullies

Especially at my school

They called me dozy Duggan

And treated me like a fool

Then I came to Australia

And joined the army here

That’s where I gained some courage

And lost all of my fear.
