No Matter Who We Be

No Matter Who We Be

A Poem by peter Duggan
"

We might think that we are special, But in the end we all live in fear and have to die.

"

No Matter Who We Be

So you’re a Queen, a pope or king

Or a crawling politician

Or a doctor, saint or lawyer

You have a great position

Folk put you on a pedestal

But own up to ‘who you are?’

Just another frightened soul

No matter how you star

We’re all going to die one day

And we don’t know where we’ll go

We make up many foolish stories

As we pretend we know

Afraid to live, afraid to die

That’s the way it seems to be

Don’t matter who you think you are

You still know misery

All in all we’re merely people

No matter what folk say

One day we’re bound to disappear

We’ll all just fade away

Someday all will turn to dust

No kind of history

Can ever help when we are dead

No matter who we be

Hi Phonetics. I read your words and I realize that we two think alike. I hope that when my time goes I can bring it in with a smile. I was fascinated by death even as a child, And I have looked into it though books, mystics, and for all those years I have looked deep within my sou,I thank you so much for your kind comments, my friend....peter

Hi Chris, so nice to hear from you my friend. I have been extremely lazy with my writing and commenting. I guess it is because of my old age. I just want to sit in the garden these days, and look within myself. I have no fear at all these days. and although I am in no hurry to meet my demise, when it comes I hope to dance into wherever I am going. To me there has never been any doubt that life truly goes on forever. Just the body and the mind die. Thank you, my friend for your kind comments...Peter

The only thing in life we can be certain of Peter is that we will all die. Doesn't matter how rich or poor we are, whether we have lived the life of celebrities or hermits, it's all going to end the same way. I'm not sure I fear death, it is inevitable. I certainly don't want to embrace it with open arms, and I think it is the fear of a painful death which concerns most. Thank you for posting this poem, I enjoyed reading your lines. Made me pause and reflect.

That’s true. We all die. Like flowers or the leaves on trees, we crumble and wither away to the passage of the seasons which no human can control. But I think I do not fear death and if I do, it’s only because I have not lived my life the way I sit fit. Without regrets. Or that the death will be painful. To die, I think it’s quite beautiful. You return to your bed of stars and flowers, of the oceans and the sky, released of the troubles that the fast paced world may bring both of sickness to the mind or body. You just become not nothing but part of the universe again. It’s a comforting thought that our bodies are made from the same materials of stars and nebulas.
