It's All About Oil

It's All About Oil

A Poem by Christina May Shanaberg
"

The root of world politics; we knew it was coming and did nothing!

"

IT'S ALL ABOUT OIL

We are having trouble,

Making sense of our world;

Are we seeing double

Or are we looking through oil?

My children are obese

And blaming me for that;

Every time I sneeze,

I blame OPEC and Yessir Arafat.

We are having trouble

Finding an alternative way;

We've been living in a bubble

Of what "oil glut" politicians say.

Can we, even, see the truth,

Before freedom is taken away;

We've been users, through youth;

Now, our oil has been taken away.

We, "baby boomers," missed

The most dangerous drug of all;

The one our politicians pissed,

While standing at the presidental stall.

We may have become

Potatoes on the NFL couch;

However, we were the hum

To tell about Vietnam's ouch.

We can change the earth,

Like we wanted to do, then,

We may be older, since birth,

But we are the "baby boomer" men.

Your poem is hard-hitting in it's truths and is well written. The graphic reminded me of the Kuwait refineries burning as we completed the mission in '90/'91. There isn't a man alive can tell me that war wasn't about oil.
It's about four years now since I bought a smaller model car and last year I got a new one ... which is more efficient in use. To top of my personal effort in view of wasted energy I cycle to and from the railway station, 6 miles a day when going to work.
It's such a pity nobody wants to hear the voice of reason. Well written.

Goes straight to the heart... It is one of the most touching topics because it enfolds all the humanity and blaming "OPEC and Yessir Arafat" won't get us to nowhere... because the war itself is wrong... stopping it is, sharply, impossible because it is hard to make all the human-beings cooperate together... Seems simple but it is beyond the bounds of possibilities... anyway, may God help us to get through...
I like your poem, the authenticity is potent, the realism in your thoughts... The simplicity in your expressions... all combine to make such an impressing poem.

Well written. I wish more people understood the impact of oil power.

This is a powerful and very true poem. It brings to mind what a very special young man used to to tell me when I said the world is in a mess. He would say, " no its not the world, its the people in it."People said he was mentally challenged but he was smarter than some I knew, some college grads or others that thought they had all the answers.

Ah yes! Powerful hon! And so true! We invade other places to replace on tyrannical leader with another...supply them weapons for an excuse....raise prices in fuel...when there is free energy....and all of what you have said and more? Why? Because its always been for oil and money....and yes...we have let it happen but also there is an awakening happening...more and more people are tired of being lied to!
I for one await a positive shift.....peace and love to you honey and all!
Great poem!

I know it's a serious poem, but I found parts of it humorous.
We are ugly Americans, it's true. I loved the reference to
the NFL coach potatoes. It's true we are addicted to our cars,
I'm so guilty of this! I'm always in my car. Great poem
