The Crawl Space

The Crawl Space

A Poem by Christina May Shanaberg
"

A mother at her wit's end!

"

THE CRAWL SPACE

I awoke to daymares

And tried to make matters right;

Had there been nightmares

Or mind monsters, in the night;

The children were screaming,

Blaming me for lost shoes;

The husband was steaming

About the morning's bad news;

What had happened after

A sweet, sincere "good night;"

Was it that their laughter

Turned into a pile of spite;

I am a wife and mother

Whom hates mornings like this;

Some way or another

I want to cease to exist;

I run onto the lawn

Wanting to float into space,

Because I hadn't had time to yawn,

In this crazy place;

I looked at the house,

Wiping tears from my face;

I tried to turn into a mouse

And hide in the crawl space.

For you, Mom!

In my mother's, Susie Q's" review, she says that the picture reminds her of some of my family. She is referring to my four pet rats, Chartuese, Little Tommy Tucker, Rick, and Gary.

Not exactly an auspicious start to the day.
"The Crawl Space," which is well-considered, well-written and image-rich, hides little.

Interesting experience to share... and I relate to it...
The poem is firstly very well-expressed, carefully described and the last two lines add such glory to it...
I never thought that life can be as difficult in the morning...

Life can be hard for the house in the morning. Everybody is in a hurry and have no patience. I like the description and the desire to find a place of peace. Thank you for a excellent poem.
