WHAT MONEY BUYS

I love my rich boyfriend;

He buys me such nice things;

He really knows how to spend;

Gourmet meals and diamond rings;

He comes to call with roses, too,

And takes me to the best shows;

I never want for fresh and new;

What I want he always knows.

I miss my wonderful boyfriend;

He has moved on to other things;

I have lost my lover and best friend

To someone he gives sweet nothings;

He called to say that he'd moved on

To a lady who appreciates the best;

He had found someone to count upon,

Because what money buys can't last.

So very true. I found the first stanza very comical, as though it were mocking those people who do only get into relationships for money. In the end, it is sad that they lose the relationship if they actually did like the person and merely got caught up in the wealth, but I feel that this poem is more of a satire on these people and that they should get their priorities straight or they'll end up losing everything that truly matters. Either or, very good poem, well done.

An ironic and amusing poem. It says alot about miscommunication between lovers and suitors.. When one sets out a stall in a relationship it is difficult to shake it free.. Sometimes what you want from the other is not conveyed clearly enough and sometimes what the other gives is accepted without interpretation of love...!

And, of course, money doesn't buy intangible things...

Ironic that he should find someone to 'count' upon..!!! ..after all the money that had been counted upon his last girlfriend...!!

Thanks for making the effort to summon inspiration for this contest!! Much appreciated...!

I don't know. There was a song." Money can't buy you love. But damns close. " In a life I learn money is necessary. But moment with Grandparent, parent and children are the gold in a life. A very good poem. A lot of good wisdom in your words.

Enjoyed your contrasting poem. I've seemed to learn the same lesson before. Great piece of writing Christina.
