Someone in this Picture

Someone in this Picture

A Poem by Christina May Shanaberg
"

Written for my estranged son, Dennis Shanaberg!

"

SOMEONE IN THIS PICTURE

Someone in this picture

Is lying;

Could it be that the truth

Was a lie;

Could it be that the lie

Was true;

Someone in this picture

Is lying;

Now, I am the judge

Of the truth;

I am not listening,

Anymore;

I am deciding what

Is true;

I can listen with

My own ears;

I can see with

These eyes;

I can, finally, say

This is true

And, unfortunately, that

Was a lie;

I can know in

My heart

And, maybe, my world

Will change;

There is something wrong

With this picture

And I will search to

Find what.

Our kids...!!!??? Wonderful write. You get your concern and frustration across quite well. Always trying to figure out what's going on and where it went wrong. I think most parents, especially of older children, will really appreciate this write. Well done.

I sense an internal conflict. Do you see yourself in the picture? Or do you see pieces of yourself, as in your family? I loved this, it felt like a restless sort of lament. But there is hope at the end, in your declaration to find what went wrong. Beautiful :)

I can see frustration, and I can see a frantic search for what went wrong... Portrayed beautifully with the picture metaphor.. The opening line "Something in this picture is lying" says it all so vividly...
I hope you find what is wrong with the picture soon and set it right...

I really enjoyed this piece. I like the flow and I like the word play. Kinda of laid back as if you are still trying to come down off of that high!

What else can we do but search for the truth? Little do we know when they are young and we can do no wrong, how different things can turn out. I can't think of a worse thing then not having your children in your lives. This was very sad, but hopefull.

I wish you and the fam all the best.

I have always said, "no matter what lie might be told to your unknowing small child", the day will come when they are grown, they will seek the truth.

Kids can hurt us worse than any one sometimes,
vica versa. A complicated world we live in.
