As a Field Tax Auditor for the State of Ohio, I, constantly, received requests to reschedule audits. On Wednesday, July 22, I received a call from an accountant's secretary, indicating their client's appointment, at his company, for Friday, July 24, should be changed to the same time tomorrow, at my office.
A short while later, I received a call from the accountant, confirming that he wanted an appointment, in my office, for the same time Friday, not tomorrow, as his secretary indicated.
Unfortunately, the client was calling for the accountant, while the accountant was talking to me. The secretary told the client an appointment had been scheduled, in my office, at the same time, tomorrow.
When the accountant attempted to return the client's call, he found the line was busy. The client was changing his appointment, for the same time tomorrow, to the same time Friday, with one of his customers.
Alas, the accountant telephoned to reschedule the rescheduled appointment, from the same time Friday to the same time tomorrow, at my office, and he said, "You see, the main problem is my secretary thinks tomorrow is Friday!"
Wow, I can only imagine the headaches associated with that job... lol. Good, comic twist at the end of this one, I liked it.
In your first sentence, "As a Field Tax Auditor for the State of Ohio, I, constantly, received requests to reschedule audits." I don't think the commas after "I" and "constantly" are necessary.
Cute story about how communications get cross wired, even with the instantaneous touch of telephones or email. It's always the human element (in this case the secretary's misunderstanding among other things) that is the weal link. Well said. :-)
I just watched a movie about a tax auditor yesterday! This was a delightful piece and goes to show its not so easy doing some jobs, especially when communication is an issue.
You write very well and thanks for posting this, Christina!

Those awful scheduling of meetings and appointments and rescheduling them can so get you on a hectic day, but this was amusing and surely broke the monotony of the day!
July 28th is my birthday! Honestly, that's how it caught my eye, haha.
Wonderful piece though. Days like that are so frustrating, but so comical at the same time, haha. It was a bit confusing at first, but enjoyable in the end.
