Memory of a Fool

Memory of a Fool

A Poem by Christina May Shanaberg
"

We all live and learn!

"

MEMORY OF A FOOL

Tonight, I see a vague image

Of our, once, delirious bliss;

A timeless moment inwhich to judge

The crime of a false kiss;

In the Book, we were warned

Not to indulge in scattered lust

Nor to pick the ruby adorned,

Covering the evil and dishonest;

Now, I clearly see you, yesterday,

A lying and disfigured jewel;

I am glad you cast me away,

But I remain the memory of a fool.

We are all played the fool at some point in our lives and remember the moment(s) well. You capture the essence of that moment simply, powerfully, embarrassingly, shamefully. Loving, living, learning...it's all part of the whole of being. Even God understood and understands it.

This has got a very nostalgic and surreal tone to it, still it also resonates a kind of bitter embarrassment that you went out with a dude who is difigured, but you use the term jewell which indicates that the time you had was precious. Still I like the sarcasm that you kind of live within this fool but only as a memory . Nice poem with carefully chosen words which definately evoke a 'timeless' feeling to them.
